Applications
Only non-incarcerated U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply.
The FEF web site now has a Frequently-Asked-Question (FAQ) section. Please review before filling out the application and before contacting FEF.
The applicant information sheet should be submitted when you have read the entire application and made the decision to complete it. After submitting the applicant information sheet, you should receive an e-mail confirming receipt and assigning you an applicant ID. Add secretary@fadelfoundation.org to your address book to prevent FEF’s e-mails from being caught in your Spam folder. The last day to mail the remaining application materials is Thursday, May 31, 2012.
A complete application for first-time applicants will consist of:
- The Applicant Information Sheet
- The Application (Google Docs version) (Adobe version). You have two options. Either submit the Applicant Information Sheet and the Application online, or print out the Adobe version, fill it out and mail it in. Don’t convert the Adobe version into MS Word and type it out. If you take the Google Docs route, download the Adobe version so you can prepare your answers offline and then copy and paste your answers into the Google form.
- One (1) Teacher/Professional Recommendation letter. Make sure the person submitting your letter of recommendation includes your complete, official name and FEF ID and signs and dates the letter. FEF provides an optional form for these letters.
- For each institution which awarded you a degree, submit your most complete official transcript. Submit your latest official transcript at your current institution. Only submit your high school transcript if you have not completed significant college work.
- A copy of the FAF or FAFSA (see below).
Those who have received a FEF award within the last two years should use the Renewal Application. The deadline to mail is May 31, 2012.
The mailing address is FEF, Inc., P.O. Box 212135, Augusta, GA 30917. Do not use any method which requires the recipient’s signature. Deadlines are based on postmarks, not the date FEF receives the material. So you are always safe using USPS first class mail. Keep a copy of your application materials.
In addition to information provided by the applicant, all applicants are required to submit a financial need report to FEF. Send a copy of your Financial Aid Form (FAF) or the Free Application for Federal Students Assistance (FAFSA). Information about either of these services and the deadline to apply to them may be obtained either from the applicant’s high school or the Office of Financial Aid of his/her respective institution.
The selection of successful candidates for awards is based on a combination of need and merit. Grant selections are completed in mid-July. You will not be notified. You must check the website to see if you received an award. The maximum amount for the grant is $3,500.00. If you are selected, you must follow these instructions before any money is disbursed.
The awards are sent directly to the educational institution. The duration of the award is one academic year. Recipients are encouraged to re-apply in subsequent years.
Any questions should be mailed to the above address or e-mailed. You can leave a voice mail message at 484-694-1783.
Do not contact FEF asking if materials have arrived. You can follow the status of your full application or your renewal application online using your FEF ID.
